Following from the ARI Roundtable on Speculative Southeast Asian Aesthetic Urban Futures held on the 31st of May 2022, I discuss Southeast Asian speculative fiction and art as critical and ethnographic counterpoints to the plethora of technological and financial urban futures promoted in Southeast Asia here in this piece, Visualising ‘Asia as Future’ through speculative Southeast Asian Aesthetic Urban Futures, for ARIScope. I focus on some key points on the works discussed by Singapore-based artist Jason Wee and Jakarta-based artist Tita Salina and commentary provided by Associate Professor Daniel Goh from the Roundtable.
